Becoming a movie star is the dream of many teenagers, and some spend years trying to make it in Hollywood.

How can you explain when an actor decides to leave the limelight and move on to a more mundane career?

How much is too much of a good thing? Some famous people called it quits early on, but others abandoned their careers after decades spent on the film set.

10 /10 Mara Wilson

The cute Matilda of the 1996 movie of the same name, Mara Wilson, was a sensational child actor. Let’s not forget that before starring in Matilda, she also played the little girl in the much-acclaimed 1993 movie Mrs. Doubtfire.

Wilson quit acting in 2000, completed her studies at the age of 13, and became a writer. One of her books, Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame deals, among other things, with the stress of being a child actor.

9 /10 Kevin Jonas

One of the famous Jonas Brothers, Kevin, gave up showbiz when the band broke up in 2013. He’s moved on to a completely different life and is now busy creating apps, a very modern and profitable business.

His most important project so far is Yood, an app that helps you locate nearby restaurants that serve your preferred food.

8 /10 Dylan Sprouse

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was one of Disney’s most popular shows in the early 2000s. Dylan Sprouse was Cody, while his twin brother Cole played Zack.

After the show ended, Dylan Sprouse worked for a time in coffee and beer shops, and now he has his brewery in New York. His brother, however, is still into acting, and you’ve probably seen him in CW’s Riverdale.

7 /10 Gene Hackman

Gene Hackman is a true Hollywood legend, with many great movies and quite a few awards to his name, including two Oscars. Surprisingly, Hackman left Hollywood in 2004 to dedicate himself to writing at the age of 74.

He’s into historical novels, and he’s already published three books. Not that he’s cut all connection with acting. In recent years he agreed to be the narrator for two documentary films.

She started acting at the age of 10, in The Wizard of Oz, but her most memorable role was in ABC’s sitcom Boy Meets World, a production in which she played Topanga’s role.

While she did appear in the sequel Girl Meets World, Danielle Fishel has made a career for herself as a journalist, writing for PopSugar.

5 /10 Jack Gleeson

Gleeson decided he’d had enough of acting at the age of 21. I can’t blame him, for he’d been in showbiz since he was 8.

Most will probably remember him as the evil King Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones, which was quite a magnificent performance.

Jack Gleeson studied religion and philosophy, but he’s still into acting. Just not Hollywood. Last we’ve heard of him; he was working with a theatre company in Australia.

If you grew up with Saved by the Bell, you would remember Lisa Marie Turtle. The actress who played Lisa, Lark Voorhies, was 15 when the series started, and she received several awards for her performance.

However, after the show ended, she only appeared in a few minor roles before moving on to other arts. She tried music, she’s an accomplished painter, and she has written three books.

3 /10 Danny Lloyd

You certainly remember Danny, maybe not as in Lloyd, but as Danny Torrance, the boy from the 1980 horror movie The Shining, based on Stephen King’s novel.

The boy who survived the terrible events at the Overlook hotel and the wrath of his demented father, played by Jack Nicholson, chose not to pursue a career in acting.

Danny Lloyd studied to become a biology teacher, and he lives with his wife and four kids in Kentucky. He only made a cameo appearance in the 2019 Doctor Sleep, which is King’s sequel to The Shining.

2 /10 Charlie Korsmo

Whatever happened to the son of Peter Pan from the 1991 movie Hook? He didn’t go to Neverland, and he also left the wondrous land of Hollywood behind.

Charlie Krosmo was a very talented child actor; he made quite a few good movies but then decided to call it quits and follow a regular career, becoming a lawyer. However, the first love is hard to forget, and in 2019 Korsmo made a surprise appearance in Chained for Life.

1 /10 Ali MacGraw

Ali MacGraw was an icon of the 1970s with her prominent role in ‘Love Story,’ which won her a Golden Globe and millions of fans’ hearts.

She quit the cinema world in 1983, when she was 44 years old, never to return. She developed an interest in yoga and dedicated her life to animal rights campaigns.
