6 Cara Delevingne
Actress and supermodel Cara Delevigne had a privileged childhood in the heart of London, but that did not prevent her from sinking into depression. Her troubles started when she was 15.
‘I was hit with a massive wave of depression and anxiety and self-hatred, where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out.’
The sad part is that she was aware there was no logical explanation for her mental issues, so she did not dare tell anybody about her feelings.
The famous singer was at the height of her career in 2012 when her son Angelo James was born. At the same time, she regarded having a child as a blessing, a miracle that gave meaning to her life, that did not stop her from developing postpartum depression and anxiety attacks.
I was obsessed with my child. I felt very inadequate’, she recalled. She soldiered through her mental illness alone, too afraid to ask for professional help.
What saved her was talking to some of her friends and discovering she was not the only one to feel that way. She understood it was OK to have doubts and fears, liberating her from her guilt and the sense of helplessness.
4 Leonardo DiCaprio
The handsome Leo suffers from OCD, and he’s been very frank about his problems. DiCaprio says that, sometimes, his OCD makes him go through a doorway several times in a row, and feels compelled to step on chewing gum stains.
While it is scary to have these compulsions, the actor says he does his best to keep his problems under control, and he sometimes scolds himself for doing such crazy things.
