There are two types of people in the talent agencies’ world – those who can claim the honor of having discovered a star and those who were too blind to see the potential in an actor knocking on their door.
Many of today’s celebrities had a hard time establishing themselves in Hollywood after being told they were too ugly to have a shot at a career. Today, most of these people are on every Hot Celebrities’ list.
10 /10 Winona Ryder
The ‘Girl, Interrupted’ star had a most brutal first attempt at a movie career. People would constantly tell her to give up on her dreams as she did not have the looks needed to make it in this industry.
The absolute worst came during an audition when she was cut off mid-sentence by a very rude director who probably thought he was doing the young aspiring actress a favor.
‘You are not pretty enough,’ he told her. You should go back to wherever you came from, and you should go to school. You don’t have it.‘ Fortunately, she did not listen.
9 /10 Meryl Streep
One of the best actresses of her generation, Meryl Streep has an awe-inspiring career behind her. As she once said, she’s almost ashamed to be nominated for yet another award.
And, however, it took her a lot of determination to make herself known. In 1976, famed producer Dino de Laurentiis rejected her bid for the central female part in King Kong, telling her to her face she was too ugly to be an actress, let alone a leading lady.
8 /10 Taylor Lautner
The actor who rose to fame with his Twilight saga role is quite the Hollywood hunk today. However, it wasn’t easy. First, he got a part; then, he was told the producers had second thoughts about him, as he was too skinny.
When he heard he was being recast for another movie, Lautner committed to a hellish bodybuilding routine, training almost every day and eating a lot to build up a healthier body. It worked, and he’s still very much into training, much to the delight of his fans.
7 /10 Judi Dench
Alright, British actress Judi Dench was never what you’d define as hot, at least not by today’s standards. When she was young, she was told to forget about acting, as she didn’t have a perfect face.
Yet, the 85-year old Judi Dench is one of the best actresses in the world, her merits being acknowledged by the Queen of England who named her Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1988.
Let’s not forget the impressive list of film awards, including an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in ‘Shakespeare in love.’
